by kennylazo1 inplease explain some of your past experiences of dealing with dealing with nosy brothers and sisters and how you dealt with them.
also have you ever dealt with a brother or sister who brings up your past just as a new topic for a conversation?
that happened to me once.

Yes Fay I agree, it's pretty obnoxious. Especially the whole 'marketing' angle, going for the young adult demographic 😝 And like you said practically worshipping their own corporate logos 😕

Elaborate? Are you just pointing out that the JWdotORG QR code is a wall decoration, or am I missing something else? If that's all, what about it?

Under "Breaking News" on JWdotORG, there is a link to a court case in Canada that was just resolved on May 31st.

It's in regard to him being disfellowshipped, and the court says they can't get involved. JWdotORG gives this statement about their victory:
the disfellowshipping arrangement should remain free from court intervention. We rejoice in this vindication of Jehovah’s righteous standards.
It also appears that Catholics, Mormons, Sikhs and others were friends of the court or something like that. Here are some quotes from the actual court decision:
Mr. Wall argues that a contractual right (or something resembling a contractual right) exists between himself and the Congregation. There was no such finding by the chambers judge.
...
members of a congregation may not think of themselves as entering into a legally enforceable contract by merely adhering to a religious organization
...
Mr. Wall also argued his rights are at stake because the Judicial Committee’s decision damaged his economic interests in interfering with his client base. On this point, I would again part ways with the courts below. Mr. Wall had no property right in maintaining his client base. As Justice Wakeling held in dissent in the court below, Mr. Wall does not have a right to the business of the members of the Congregation
...
Had Mr. Wall been able to show that he suffered some detriment or prejudice to his legal rights arising from the Congregation’s membership decision, he could have sought redress under appropriate private law remedies. This is not to say that the Congregation’s actions had no impact on Mr. Wall; I accept his testimony that it did.
...
This Court has considered the relevance of religion to the question of justiciability. In Bruker v. Marcovitz, 2007 SCC 54, [2007] 3 S.C.R. 607, at para. 41, Justice Abella stated: “The fact that a dispute has a religious aspect does not by itself make it non-justiciable.” That being said, courts should not decide matters of religious dogma. -

Not posted for a year because mum died did not want blood.
by Witness 007 ini posted here weekly until a year ago when my mum died of a mild form of lukemia which is easy to treat with 2 blood tranfusions a month.
you can live to 100 with treatment, but no my mum chose to die a faithful witness after 2 years of chemo and hell for her family and doctors.
her chemo doctor cried when she only had weeks left to live knowing that she could be saved with one bag of blood!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother, and can understand how anything JW related would be nauseating. For your own health, I wish you the best in focusing on the positive and getting a measure of peace. They've taken enough, don't let them take everything. If posting on here more frequently is something you're interested in or you think would help you sort out thoughts and move forward, I look forward to hearing from you again. If not, best wishes.

WT Finger Pointing
by Vanderhoven7 indo you have examples of wt style finger pointing (with 3 pointing right back).
"satans organization claims to be gods organization, and persecutes those who are actually members of gods organization.
satans organization sails under the high-sounding name of "christendom".

That's a great one about salvation not depending on an organization, but in fact being idolitry, especially since it's relatively recent (1990).
Thanks Vanderhoven7

Favourite Quirky / Low Budget / Non-Mainstream Movies
by Simon inso the recent topic about film franchises got me thinking.
sure, we all love the big budget, mainstream releases that are so successful they spawn never-ending (it sometimes seems) sequels.
we could watch marvel and star-wars movies for the rest of our lives (and we might just ...).. but y'know what i love?

Yes UHF is on my favorite list of all time, it's a comic masterpiece, can't wait to get it on Blu-ray. I also really enjoyed Buster Keaton's silent film "The Cameraman". Cute love story with brilliant sight gags, laugh out loud homor and twist ending.

Film Franchises
by LoveUniHateExams inso, i'm quite into films, and horror is my favourite genre.. i don't own many franchises in full or almost in full.. but when i first started collecting dvds, i did tend to buy every film in a particular franchise if i enjoyed the first film or two.. i bought alien (1979) and aliens (1986) second-hand for 99 pence each (less than a dollar each!
) and they're fantastic.. so, i went back to the second-hand shop and bought alien 3 (1992), alien resurrection (1997) and prometheus (2012) ... erm, yes.
alien 3 (theatrical cut) was pretty good; resurrection was so bad it's funny and despite the gorgeous shots and good acting by michael fassbender, prometheus wasn't my thing.

Star Wars:
Love Lucas's originals (1-6), 7 was disappointing and derivative but still fun, 8 brought it back to where it needs to be. The spin offs are good too, I thought Rogue One was amazing, and the new Solo, while not a necessary masterpiece or anything, was still a solid film that I'd want to watch again.
The Matrix:
The first one was a true masterpiece, with references that strike many of us even more so now that we've woken up to TTATT. Was not crazy about the two sequels. They were interesting and had some world building and neat cinematography, but dragged too much.
Men in Black:
Again, loved the first one. I hated the second one. To me it just seemed to be gratuitously aiming for shock value in the vein of the first but without earning it story wise. And the very fact that Tommy Lee Jones came out of retirement completely ruined the character arc from the first film, rendering it meaningless and undoing the first films perfect ending just for the sake of another outing. I like time travel, so I did enjoy number 3, and also thought the actor impersonating his younger version did a good job. But since it was built on the premise of number 2, which ruins number 1, that dampened my enjoyment. Also, I thought the ending was pretty convoluted and shoehorned, about him knowing Will Smith as a child, and it totally didn't mesh with the original.

What’s your favorite "News" website?
by Wonderment innews in general are supposed to be unbiased.
but given how commercial and political interests get their tentacles around them, finding a fully unbiased news website is not so easy.. here in america some would rather trust bbc or reuters than they do cnn or fox news.
any favorites?.

Snopes. In a rare few articles I've detected a slight left bias, but still they lay out enough of the straightforward facts for you to form an opinion regardless of any commentary. Snopes actually helped me a little in waking up, forcing me to exercise my atrophied critical thinking skills, especially in the articles about various urban legends, many of which I learned from JWs.
